[the tavern is...as loud and raucous as expected. Drinking, laughing, shouting, a brawl in the corner--standard pirate town tavern stuff. No sign of any birds, though :) There's a young man behind the bar, polishing a glass. His pale blue eyes flick over to Edward as he walks in, briefly, before they glance away again, called back to his task]

[Of course there's no bird. Why did he think there'd be a bird. And now he's in a tavern, all loud noises and chaos and--

he just barely manages to sidestep someone spilling their drink on him.

[he's got a couple minutes to wait before that young man behind the bar counter manages to make his way over to him, limping over, foot turned oddly outward as he slings a bar towel over his shoulder] Alright, what'll it be?

Huh? [he blinks, looking up. oh. right.] Ah. Whatever is both cheap and unlikely to make me throw up, I suppose? If you have any recommendations for that.

[he gives him a slightly funny look--somewhere between amusement and confusion] Aye. Ale it'll be. [and he turns to head back to the bar--though he's immediately stopped by a large, meaty hand on his shoulder] "Oy, Penguin, get us another round, would'ye? We're thirsty!" [and Penguin shrugs off that hand, waving] Aye, I'll bring it 'round.

[and that properly gets his attention and he raises an eyebrow] ...Penguin...?

[Penguin glances back, then, arching an eyebrow right back, and gestures to his ankle--before moving to get those ales. Sorry, no time for chat atm.]

Looks like he's sitting here a while, until they can chat, just patiently waiting until-- SIKE HE'S GETTING UP RIGHT NOW GUESS WHAT BUDDY YOU HAVE A STALKER] Rather rude, really, referring to you with a name chosen entirely for a physical impairment. Though I suppose that must be the culture around here.

[Penguin frowns at that, glancing back at him, immediately wary as he makes his way back behind the bar]

You could say that. It's not exactly high society.

[he glances over towards the brawl in the corner.] Evidently not. [and looking back at this... Penguin.] Still, well. Penguins do have some things going for them. Excellent swimmers, for one. Makes up rather well for their inability to fly.

[. . . .] How nice, that Penguins have some things going for them. [dryly, setting a mug on the counter in front of him] Your ale. [and he's starting to pour those others.]

Oh, yes, thanks. [just takes that] ...So, how well do you know this place?

[eyebrow arch] I've been here about six months, so I know it alright.

[he's filling up those ale mugs] Clearly you're new.

I just got here, yes. [cool okay well,] And immediately wandered into some strange alleys, which I'm sure is a common thing around here. The people here are very... colorful.
