[and Oswald...blinks.] .....ah. I don't suppose they ever give you a break, do they? [he's not really sure he believes him (yet, if at all) but....that's a statement thrown at his feet and he's willing to follow it] "Ah. I'm terribly sorry, young man. I didn't mean to impose. I'll return later, so as not to trouble you."[the man smiles a little, sheepishly, before moving to take a step back]

Not generally. I don't always mind, but... [He glances over.] No, you're fine. At this point you might as well stay. It's... whatever.

[Normally, Oswald is very good at spotting ruses. There's always a break somewhere. But...Edward's shown nothing of the sort. There are three available options to that: either he is a very, very good liar, he believes that its true and its a figment of his mind or...he's telling the truth. The last one would seem the least likely to any sane individual but...these circumstances are getting less and less sane the more he is here. Between the too-convenient set up and the information about his clients and all of this business...it's really throwing him for a loop. Oswald just...watches him for a moment] "Ah, well, if you're sure. Do let me know if you'd rather I leave, though. Or my wife. She's more stubborn than I, but if you ask, she'll listen."

[enigmaster]

It's fine. Really. [And he looks back at Oswald.] I didn't tell you about all of... this because I expect you to believe me or anything. I don't. I only told you because you asked.

...and how many people have believed you in the past?

[enigmaster]

None.

[and Oswald just...contemplates that a moment. His arms fold across his chest] ...I'm not really sure what to think. There are far too many variables at this point, still, though I've narrowed them down. I suggest you tell your lawyer that you want to put in for a reexamination of the crime scene. That would give you at least another day.

[enigmaster]

...And then what, exactly?

Then that'll give me more time to gather evidence and figure out who is trying to frame you. Especially considering the target.

[enigmaster]

And then what? What, you find out who framed me and you'll just drop the case? [He sounds very incredulous.]

[agoodname]

If I dropped the case, some other idiot would take it, and succeed, and make it look like I couldn't handle the case. And I don't drop cases. [his mouth is twisted into a scowl] Someone set you up. They way they did it was sloppy--to the point of obviousness. Either they're incredibly stupid, or it was done that way on purpose. I don't know which one of those it is yet, but either way, the result is the same: if I win this trial, it looks like I needed the help to do so, and that my methods are dirty. Which I do not appreciate. I want to know who set you up, and I want to know why. Whether they meant to involve me and slander my work or not, they're doing so. [his features darken] I don't take kindly to that. I need to find out who they are so they can be properly....dealt with. Yet at the same time, I cannot let them know that I'm looking, so it needs to seem like it's coming from your end. Unfortunately, your lawyers are insofar too stupid to help with anything at all, much less defend you decently, so it has to come from you.

[enigmaster]

I see. [And Edward has his eyes narrowed, as he listens. Taking the whole thing in.] So, if I'm understanding this correctly... For the sake of your ego, this case is going to be prolonged for a considerable amount of time while you figure out whatever it is you so desperately need to know so you can solve this problem and lose the case on your own terms. Not only that, I have to actually help you by trying to also do what I can to have the whole process delayed. Do I have that right?

[agoodname]

You're completely correct, yes. [Oswald smirks, at that] On the bright side, it means you won't be convicted of murder or go to jail.

[enigmaster]

And you expect this to work.

I know it will work. [his eyes flick up to Edward's, holding his gaze]

... No, thanks.

....I beg your pardon.

[enigmaster]

No, thank you. I don't especially feel like giving you any help.

[agoodname]

....so you would rather go to jail and to, what you've just told me, is suicide. [yeah that is definitely the 'are you an idiot' tone of voice]

[enigmaster]

I would rather not delay the inevitable for the sake of your ego.

[agoodname]

[Oswald's mouth twists at that] My ego is justified--I am that good. If what you've told me about you seeing the dead is true, then that's something you'd already know.

[enigmaster]

Good enough when you're convicting people. This is something else entirely. ...I'm already very tired of this whole case. I don't want it to drag on just on the off chance you can manage to find a way to convincingly lose to an absolute garbage lawyer.

[agoodname]

Off chance? [Oswald's mouth twists into a scowl--but he stops, eyes narrowing] ...and what about a lawyer that wasn't garbage?

[enigmaster]

They don't want anything to do with this case. Either because of the circumstances or because of me. And I don't have the money for a good one anyway.

[agoodname]

[he leans back in his chair then, humming] ...there has to be some bleeding heart out there that would take you pro-bono if enough of a stink was made.
