[This seems very unfine, actually. He's... just gonna turn away again and start walking again. He just... needs to get home. And then things will be... ...well, not... fine. He'll be at home. But at least he knows what to expect there.]

[there's noises, now--the sound of metal on stone, brief, but there behind him.

It's getting closer. And he's the only one out here now]

[He jumps again, spinning around. What the fuck?] W-Who's there?

[no answer...for along moment. then there's a brief drag of metal on stone again, before it goes quiet]

[enigmaster]

[You know what, he decided that he hates this, actually. He backs up a few steps.] S-Seriously, if someone's there, at least have the courtesy to say so!

[no answer.

After a long moment of silence, there's a short chuckle, and that's it]

[...Okay, you know what, fuck this actually. He's gonna just. Go? He's gonna hurry on away from here because this is Gotham and that's never good.]

[it sure isn't. But even as he's hurrying away, he can maybe hear footsteps]

[He's not even going to look, he's just going to start running maybe.]

[yeah good call because those footsteps are uh

definitely matching pace]

[Fuck. He's going to keep running, ducking into an alley he knows isn't a dead end, because... because what else can he do, really, except try to lose whoever the hell is now chasing him?]

[yeah he sure is being chased through some alleys. Better hope he doesn't run into a problem]

[He knows the alleys well enough. Except, usually, he isn't running through them in a panic. So after a bit, he turns and trips. For the second time today. Falling down. Shit.]

[oh boy those footsteps sure are getting closer--when suddenly there are hands under his armpits, hoisting him up] Now really, this is no time to be taking a rest. [mildly chiding, a bit amused, Oswald tugs Edward to his feet, before grabbing his wrist, and tugging him into a small, tight, side alley, pressing him up against the brick and putting a hand over his mouth] Shhh~

[He tenses as he's hauled up to his feet, but then... huh? Wait... wasn't the one following him... But then he's tugged away before he can question it, so all he really does is gape like an idiot. He opens his mouth to say... something, anything, but Oswald's hand is over his mouth and he stops himself. His heart is racing at about a mile a minute. Oswald can probably hear that -- feel it, even, maybe. What's... going on here?]

[Oswald can definitely feel Edward's heartbeat going a mile a minute, mostly because he's pressing himself up against him, pinning him to the wall, making sure they're both in the shadows of the alley and well hidden. A moment later, there's a figure that passes, face covered, dragging a butcher's knife with them, apparently following where they think Edward's gone]

[...Oh. Edward can't help but gasp, lightly, the sound of it thankfully completely muffled by Oswald's hand covering his mouth still. It's probably no surprise that he's trembling. Being chased by what is clearly some kind of serial killer will do that.]

[yeah good thing Oswald had his hand over his mouth. Once the guy seems a bit farther gone, Oswald will slowly remove his hand, pressing a finger to his own lips though] This way. [whispered, reaching down to take Edward's hand and tug him away]

[Edward breathes out a little, but keeps his mouth shut. Nodding and letting Oswald lead him away. He's shaking like a leaf right now... he knows it, too. How the hell did he get himself into this mess?]

[Oswald can feel him shaking, leading him through the maze of alleys until they get to a construction site, which they're ducking into. And once they're a bit more in, he's just going to pull Edward in and just wrap his arms around him for a moment] It's going to be okay, Edward. I'll protect you. Okay? [and he pulls back, giving him a small smile] You can trust me.

[Edward is just sort of mindlessly following, because what else can he do? But then, suddenly... Suddenly there are arms around him?] Huh...? [He can feel himself going red at the sudden embrace. He tenses a bit at it, at the very close contact, and boy, if his heart wasn't racing before... but something about this feels odd. It feels... sincere. Like Oswald really means it.] ...O... Okay... [What else can he do but... hope for the best?]

Good. Now--he's still following us, so we're going to go up to the roof and trap him. Okay?

W-Wait, then... then, won't we just be trapped with him?
