[he definitely seems to be playing two different and separate games at once. He loses a couple important pieces and hardly seems to care, but then a pawn is lost and his face falls into a pout.] Well really now, Edward. Picking on my poor pawn like that~

Really, it was acting under orders, it could hardly help it~ [he smirks, moving his rook right into the line of fire, like he hasn't a care in the world for it]

Well then, neither can I. [Is this bait. It feels like bait. It's definitely bait. ...Fuck, okay, he'll take it, though?]

[he takes it, and Oswald hardly makes a peep about it. And selects another--this time his bishop, to move into a more strategic position. But also a dangerous one. Erratic, now logical. He's switching, still.]

Now really, Edward. We both know that you have far more power than a poor defenseless pawn.

[enigmaster]

[what the heeeeck] There is nothing poor about these pawns.

Really, why would you pick on one of them like that? They can only move forward or diagonal, and the latter is conditional. Their lives must be rather difficult.

[flippantly, and he pushes one of his pawns forward]

Difficult, sure. And short.

Alas for the struggling pawn. [the corner of his mouth twitches, and he continues to play--logic, erratic, and back and forth again and again. Losing seemingly important pieces, keeping others that are often considered to have little use]

[WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THIS... other than, you know, keep playing to the best of his ability.] Then maybe those pawns shouldn't be in this war in the first place.

They were drafted, poor things. As I said, very little they can do. [he'll let Edward take a couple more important pieces, before finally taking one or two of his. Nothing dramatic, though. A pawn and a knight.]

Well, that's war for you.

"What is it good for?" [he hums, and sacrifices his other rook] I believe that's the age-old question.

[enigmaster]

It's very good for taking pieces, for one.

I suppose if you wanted to get all technical about it. [yep, going to pull a couple erratic moves twice in a row now. Mostly because he's starting to get thin on pieces] I was going to say profiteering of the upper class, but I suppose your answer works also.

Well, obviously.

I felt like that went without saying.

One never knows. Sometimes the obvious needs to be pointed out. [he'll take another one of Edward's pieces--a bishop this time. Granted, he loses another piece for it, but he hardly seems bothered by it, as per usual]

...Interesting. [Hmmm okay this game just, keeps happening. Oswald. What are you doing.]

As I've said, I do endeavor to be~ [he smirks across the chessboard, and continues playing, tossing out flirting comments here and there until he's basically backed into the corner. He's got about maybe two moves left before Edward has him in checkmate.] Well. This certainly has been exciting, hasn't it?

It's been... something? Sure. [IT'S BEEN A WEIRD AS HELL GAME]

[Oswald chuckles at that. He could move his bishop and sacrifice it and keep this game going just a bit longer, but....why would he do that? Instead, he reaches across the board...and pushes his pawn into place all the way on Edward's side of the board] Time for a switch, Edward~
