Not the inmates. [Well. Not the living ones, so much.] But that's not really the issue regardless of who's being loud. I simply... [He trails off.] It's nothing for you to concern yourself with. It's fine.

[.....squid???? SQUID. Oswald's eyes narrow a bit...but he does drop it.]

I'm not entirely certain. He mentioned something about my reputation. People trying to figure out who they'll assign to me next. [...] I don't like him much.

[Oswald kinda...snorts at that] You're one of the few. [his mouth twists into a scowl] He was very popular at our school. Everyone loved him. [yeah it's pretty clear what HE thinks of Theo as well]

...What is his deal, exactly?

[agoodname]

His deal is that he was first in our graduating class, summa cum laude, whatever, and the only reason for that is that I was--[he stops, pauses...clears his throat and keeps going]--I was distracted during finals. He was one step behind me the whole time until then, and as popular as he was, he's still a slimy dick and was always pissed that I had better grades than him.

...Yes, I did get a slimy impression from him. [He's with you there, Oswald.] I'm not sure why he bothered stopping by here...

Neither do I. [he folds his arms over his chest, eyes narrowing slightly--but it's more in thought than anything]

Maybe he just wanted to see what the fuss was, or maybe because I'm involved, or who knows.

[he waves a hand, wrinkling his nose] Either way, he's the last person I want sticking his nose into all this.

Apparently he thinks I'm interesting. I feel so very honored. [EXTREMELY DRY]

[ . . . . . . ] Ah. Great. [his scowl darkens a bit] Here's hoping his not next to step in as your defense attorney. Not that he can't actually be good at his job, but I also wouldn't past him to deliberately sabotage something.

I don't suppose I could just say I don't want him?

You could, yes. Hopefully they'll listen and make him go away and he won't insist. [:/a] There's got to be someone in the attorney's office that isn't an idiot and also isn't Theo that might actually be able to make sense of all this evidence and build a solid defense.

[enigmaster]

...There might just not be, you know.

[Oswald shrugs a shoulder] Maybe not in this courthouse. But if they run out of lawyers, they'll go on to getting ones from a state over or something, so eventually someone will have to show up.

[enigmaster]

...Sure. [Edward doesn't really sound like he believes it, but he's not going to argue either. It's... whatever, really. ...He's kind of quiet, now. More like he was at the start of all this.]

[...well honestly, what can he say to that?? He can't really blame Edward for all this doubt because it is, quite frankly, rather reasonable. It's a confusing, almost impossible situation, and in most cases with any other prosecutor, he would've been sentenced already.]

....right. Well. Guess we'll see who your lawyer is tomorrow, I suppose.
