[Elijah, behind her, just waves a bit, looking concerned but also a bit contrite because, well...once Gertrude starts, there's no stopping her]
"Elijah and I will keep an eye out and make sure no ghosts bother you when you are sleeping. And then we can tell them to come back tomorrow. And that way, you can sleep."
See? [so there mother. and he's going to eat his soup.
The rest of the meal passes through some gentle bickering back and forth until Oswald has to work a bit on his next case, after cleaning up the leftovers from dinner. So he'll be settled on the couch again with his case files and a small notebook]
[he's....admittedly a little surprised when Edward sits closer. But he's...he won't say anything about it, of course. If Edward feels comfortable sitting closer to him that's...nice. Friendly.
Fairly quickly, though, he gets swept up in his work, muttering to himself a bit and making notes and shuffling papers]
[.....what. Oswald just....yeah that's a distraction. And he blinks, almost just...he swallows a bit, turning his head slightly. Did he just...fall asleep accidentally? That couldn't have been on purpose.]
[Yeah, Edward... kinda dozed off. And immediately decided to use you as a pillow, Oswald, sorry about that.
And it's... weird, really. You don't notice how tense Edward looks all the time until he's relaxed and you realize, oh, he's just... on guard all the time.]
[and honestly it just....feels like everything inside him just melts. There's a warm affection in the pit of his stomach, and he smiles a little, expression soft and something close to adoring. That's...nice. That's really nice. To just....have this for a moment. To savor it. And he turns his head just enough to gently, very carefully, brush his lips against the side of Edward's head--before he swallows, turning his attention back to his work.
It's fine, Edward's not awake, and he'll just allow himself that one moment of weakness before he never does that again]
[And Edward is perfectly content to just stay like that. He settles, a little, but doesn't move more than that. He seems to be very comfortable... Why would he move?]
[Oswald sucks in a shaky breath, his heart feeling like it's fluttering in his chest. Ah. This is...bad. It's worse than he thought. Because he is all at once and altogether too certain that he would do anything in the world for Edward Nygma. No matter what.
He wants to keep him here, like this, safe and close. He should probably wake him and send him to bed.
[At some point, after a while, Edward ends up sliding down a little. Which was probably inevitable, but probably puts some more weight on Oswald, oops...]
[alsdkhfs Oswald tilts a bit to the side at that and just--kind of--shifts his arm a bit and frantically grabs at one of the couch pillows to help prop himself up.
Because of course he doesn't want to disturb him asldkfhds HE NEEDS SLEEP????]

"It's alright, Edward. It'll give us something to do." [Elijah's a bit more gentle with his speech, but still fairly straight forward]

[oswald returns to the table with his second bowl of soup--which Gertrude eyes critically again]
"....did he add enough garlic?"
no subject
Um... I'm sure he did.
no subject
Yes, mother, I added enough garlic.
[HE DOESN'T NEED TO HAVE HEARD HIS MOTHER TO KNOW WHAT SHE SAID and Elijah just looks amused]
