[yep Oswald is just going to not even bother to hide his smirk because obviously Edward isn't looking back. Oh. This is going to be so much fun]

[The next night that Oswald returns, Edward's going to be at his desk, of course, working on his own personal laptop. He looks... kind of tired. Did he actually lose sleep over this?]

[Hi Edward, Oswald's going to be approaching with that same telltale tapping of his cane--and balancing a carrier with two cups of coffee on it. Which he sets down at the desk once he reaches it, frowning a bit] ....Good evening, Edward.

[enigmaster]

[That... does not get a response. Edward's still staring at his laptop's screen. Though now that Oswald is this close, he'll probably notice that Edward looks very zoned out.]

[. . . . .] Edward?

[enigmaster]

Hm. [A vaguely non-committal noise as he does not look up.]

[agoodname]

[eyebrow arch] I brought coffee. [he takes one out, pushing it forward slightly] As well as an apology muffin. [he looks mildly amused, setting a small bag on the table, nudging that forward as well.] My sister informed me that I came on too strong again, and she's usually right. So I brought that in apology.

[enigmaster]

[And Oswald continues talking, Edward suddenly blinks and looks up.] Huh? [He looks over at the bag and the coffee, surprised.] Oh, sorry, I... Did you just get here? [... Yeah, he wasn't ignoring you, he straight up... hadn't noticed you were there.]

[Oswald is just going to stare at him for a hot second because boi]

....you didn't get much sleep, did you.

[enigmaster]

Sort of. [it's not like he stayed up thinking about you or anything b-baka] ...Long shift.

[agoodname]

At the library? [eyebrow arch]

[enigmaster]

No, at my other job. And then straight over to the library.

[agoodname]

Your other job? [Oswald leans on the desk a bit, reaching for the other coffee] What's that?

[enigmaster]

I work over in cyber crimes at the GCPD. There's long hours, sometimes.

[agoodname]

Cyber crimes. [oswald blinks a bit--that's unexpected--and he smiles, then] That's cool.

[enigmaster]

It's mostly a lot of busywork, honestly... We're rather undervalued and thus understaffed. [But... Edward does smile a little, glancing away. How do... handle... positive comment?]

That's a shame. I imagine that's rather important in this day and age.

[enigmaster]

Try telling the GCPD that.

[He blinks and looks over at that other coffee.]

Ah... Is that for me?

[Yeah, Oswald, he really didn't catch ANYTHING you said earlier. He is... a tired boy.]

[Oh, Edward. Oswald just chuckles at that] Yes. It's just coffee. I wasn't sure if you took cream or sugar, so I brought both. [he nudges the paper bag forward again, just a little] And an apology muffin.

[enigmaster]

Oh. Thank you. [He'll take these, yes. He could really use the coffee, anyhow. And he'll absolutely load that up with cream and sugar.] You don't really have to, ah... I mean. It's not like you did anything bad or anything, so...

[agoodname]

[yep gonna observe all that cream and sugar additions with mild amusement] Yes, well...[he huffs out a small sigh, straightening off the desk from where he'd leaned] That's very kind of you to say, Edward, but you really couldn't get away from me fast enough. [a bit dry, though amused. Perhaps a bit resigned. And he's reaching to retrieve his cane.] I remember where the books I needed were yesterday, so I'll just continue my research and leave you to your evening unaccosted.

[enigmaster]

[Oh. Oh no, he messed up.] T-That wasn't because of-- I, um... [Oh god what is his life, how is he in this situation? How does he fix this? How did he even end up with something that needs to be fixed???] You simply caught me off guard, it's fine.

[agoodname]

[Oswald did look about ready to turn away, but he pauses at that] ....are you sure? I'd hate to make you truly uncomfortable.

[enigmaster]

I'm sure. Completely sure. [See, now that Oswald expressed doubt, he has no choice but to double down. He's far too stubborn.]
