[Edward returns soon enough, setting a book down on the counter.] I know you were researching things to do with blood and such, so I thought maybe this would be interesting to you.

[....ah. He stares for a moment, before reaching out to take it] I--yes. Yes, this is quite interesting, in fact. [he lifts his head to smile at him] Thank you.

You're welcome. I just... hope it's an enjoyable read. ...I ordered it myself, so, ah. You don't have to worry about returning it or anything. [Yeah, that's not a library book. That's a present.]

[.....say what now] ...Edward, you didn't have to. [he traces his fingers over the cover] That's...really. Quite sweet.

Yes, well... [Listen? Listen.] I wanted to, so. Ah. Just don't worry about it. [He just... saw it and thought of Oswald.]

[he'll lean back after a moment, then] So. How much longer have you got on your shift?

Ah... [Edward needs a second, after that, just to... remember how to words? He can't quite stop himself from smiling or blushing.] About three more hours... [...No, seriously, when is he going to sleep.]

[awww look at that blush. He's so easy to please.] Three more hours? [he frowns a bit, reaching out to tuck some hair behind Edward's ear, touch lingering] Eddie, when are you going to sleep?

[There's a slight shiver at that touch and... oh god did he just call him Eddie?] Oh, um. [Right, right, the question.] I don't know, I can... squeeze in a little bit of time after my next shift at the GCPD... [buddy]

[that frown is deepening] Forgive me if I'm mistaken but...I was under the impression that people need to sleep. [there's a bit of dryness to his tone]

Generally. Although technically one can live just fine missing a few days of sleep. [IT'S? FINE????]

True, but it's not so good if one does it often...[he trails off a bit, still looking concerned. or at least the veneer of it]

...Mhm. [Yeah guess who does it often.] I, um... I'll be fine, really. You don't need to worry or anything...

Of course I'm going to worry, Edward. I don't want you to get sick or anything. [he's going to lay his hand over his, fingers curling to hold it]

Oh. [oh god oswald is holding his hand? and worrying about him? that's... new. that's new, what does he do with that...] I... I appreciate the concern. Though I can't really do much about it. I can't exactly afford to ditch my shift.

You... You don't have to do that. I mean, really, I'll be fine, you don't have to go out of your way to do anything like that--

Ah... [...was he rambling again]

Let me? Please? [he brushes his thumb across his knuckles] I don't want to crowd you or hinder your ambitions in any way, obviously, but...if you'd allow me this small thing, I'd like to do it.
