[He is incredibly good. So...for the first game, he loses rather spectacularly.]

Well...that went rather quickly. [his eyes are narrowing slightly] Round two?

[enigmaster]

Mhm, sure. [Edward would love another go, absolutely. He gets... very into chess.]

[the second round, he shifts his strategy. A couple of his moves seem random or erratic, but more like an impulse than anything. He's quite obviously going to lose again, but he's more paying attention to Edward's reaction to unexpected moves, whether logical or illogical.]

[enigmaster]

[It's... very unexpected, yes. Edward is a bit caught off guard by some of the moves and does have to scramble a bit to adjust when it happens, not sure if it's just a random move or part of some grander plan.]

[interesting. Well. He's lasted a bit longer this time--not by much, but certainly not enough to set up any grander plan. Not yet, anyway.

So. He'll pull one or two more of those, before giving the rest of the game to Edward.]

That's an interesting playstyle...

Is it~? [He rests his chin on his hand, the corner of his mouth curling into a smirk] Care to have another go?

[enigmaster]

Absolutely. [yes? yes. yes please.]

[this time...his play is incredibly mixed. It's half erratic movements, half normal strategic play. But every four or five moves he'll ignore the main focus of the battlefield entirely and move a random piece seemingly for no reason or purpose.]

[enigmaster]

[Okay, that's. Weird. And Edward is trying to keep track of both playstyles at once, which is. Tricky. This is getting harder...]

[he definitely seems to be playing two different and separate games at once. He loses a couple important pieces and hardly seems to care, but then a pawn is lost and his face falls into a pout.] Well really now, Edward. Picking on my poor pawn like that~

[enigmaster]

Your pawn knows what it did.

[agoodname]

Really, it was acting under orders, it could hardly help it~ [he smirks, moving his rook right into the line of fire, like he hasn't a care in the world for it]

[enigmaster]

Well then, neither can I. [Is this bait. It feels like bait. It's definitely bait. ...Fuck, okay, he'll take it, though?]

[he takes it, and Oswald hardly makes a peep about it. And selects another--this time his bishop, to move into a more strategic position. But also a dangerous one. Erratic, now logical. He's switching, still.]

Now really, Edward. We both know that you have far more power than a poor defenseless pawn.

[enigmaster]

[what the heeeeck] There is nothing poor about these pawns.

[agoodname]

Really, why would you pick on one of them like that? They can only move forward or diagonal, and the latter is conditional. Their lives must be rather difficult.

[flippantly, and he pushes one of his pawns forward]

[enigmaster]

Difficult, sure. And short.

[agoodname]

Alas for the struggling pawn. [the corner of his mouth twitches, and he continues to play--logic, erratic, and back and forth again and again. Losing seemingly important pieces, keeping others that are often considered to have little use]

[enigmaster]

[WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THIS... other than, you know, keep playing to the best of his ability.] Then maybe those pawns shouldn't be in this war in the first place.

[agoodname]

They were drafted, poor things. As I said, very little they can do. [he'll let Edward take a couple more important pieces, before finally taking one or two of his. Nothing dramatic, though. A pawn and a knight.]

Well, that's war for you.

[No mercy.

But boy okay what is this game even...]

"What is it good for?" [he hums, and sacrifices his other rook] I believe that's the age-old question.

It's very good for taking pieces, for one.
