[They've been doing this for some time now. And it's great. It is. Edward's never been as happy as he is with Oswald, like this. It's comfortable and he... likes it. More than he thought he was capable of liking someone.
There are some parts of it that are... weird, maybe. Like the fact that they can never meet up during the day and he doesn't really know what Oswald does for a living, really, but that's... minor. Just weird details. Some people are weird. Nothing wrong with that.
...Probably.
Tonight, he has a very short shift at the library. He's only covering for someone, really, but it gives him a little bit of time with Oswald. He's excited about that. Just... waiting for him to arrive. Not that he does every night, but very often lately.
[It's an evening like any other that he visits the library, and he ignores the small flutter in his chest as he gets close. He can hear Ivy's reprimand, her warning--and part of him hesitates for it. Is he going too often? Is he spending too much time with Edward?
It's been niggling at him, bit by bit, and he's been doing his best to ignore it. But...it's only gotten stronger, the more time he spends with Edward. Is he really singling him out? He is just a human...
So he's a bit distracted when he walks into the library, looking deep in thought as he comes through the door.]
[he'll lean on the desk as he gets there, already automatically reaching for Edward's hand. His fingers automatically curl around his palm, and it feels good there, it feels right and--oh. Oh, his chest feels tight. Like there's something around his lungs, squeezing, but it's not bad; in fact, quite the opposite.] I wouldn't miss the chance to spend time with you for the world.
[--wait, does he mean that? It's a platitude, certainly, and one he's used many times before, but looking up at Edward, who's smiling down at him, he feels lighter than a feather.
Though I... sadly don't have a lot of time tonight. Shift's kind of short... [He just kind of keeps holding on to Oswald's hand.] But, um... do you have time tomorrow night?
[this is bad. This is bad. He should say no. He should make an excuse he should step away.
But...
Tomorrow.
He's still reeling with this, now, with this sudden revelation that he wants to spentime with Edward more than he wants to do anything else, so after this, after tonight, he'll deal with it. He'll figure out a way to step back and extract himself. Because getting involved this much with a human is absolutely stupid. There's no other way to put himself. He has to remove himself from this situation but...tomorrow. Tomorrow he'll start doing that. Tomorrow, he'll think about how he's going to do that.
For right now--]
I'll make time. [he squeezes his hand] When are you thinking?
[Edward smiles again, at that, clearly relieved. He's still nervous every time he asks, still worried Oswald's going to say no, will be done with him, and that'll just be that. It feels kind of inevitable.
But not yet. That's good.]
I've got an afternoon to evening shift here tomorrow, but I'll be done around eight PM. After that, I've got the rest of the night free, so I thought maybe we could just... hang out or something?
Ah, no, not really. That sounds great. I just wanted to know if you'd want to hang out at all, first, before I figured anything else out.
[He rubs the back of his head a moment. It's so hard just... asking. But he's gotten better at it.]
I've gotta be at the GCPD in like thirty minutes, but, um... [...He's just... he's just gonna lean over and quickly kiss Oswald.] I'll see you tomorrow, for sure.
[alskdfs before he can comment on that, Edward leans down and kisses him. It's brief, nothing more than a peck, but it still makes something stutter in his chest]
Lovely. [he'll squeeze Edward's hand, then, relieved. He's not entirely sure why...it's not as though Edward would say no, right? And even if he did....
...well, no sense telling himself he wouldn't care now. That ship has sailed.
[Oswald wrinkles his nose at that] That's frustrating. Especially to be keeping you that late--and with what they're paying you. [he sounds annoyed L O L]
Well, that's their folly, for not realizing what a valuable asset you are.
[....right, he really should tamp down on the urge to go in there and "fix" a few things. That is a bad idea all around. And really exemplifies how he is in way too deep here.]
[he snorts, a bit] There's nothing sweet about it; it's the truth. [he makes an attempt to settle when Edward points out that they're at least paying him. Though it's not much. But they are stuck with each other] There is that, I suppose. [he's still sulky about it]
Still. You deserve to be treated better, especially with all you do for them.

Oh, hey. Good evening.
no subject
Ah.
Oh, he's smiling back now, and he can't help it and maybe he is happy to see Edward, but why--
He'll move forward though, towards the desk, feeling almost giddy. It's a meal. Why does he feel giddy?]
Good evening, Edward.

I'd love that. We could go to a movie or take a walk in the park? [the corner of his mouth quirks] Unless you have something else in mind?

I--yes. [he swallows, suddenly strangely nervous] Certainly.
Ah, perhaps I could--[he clears his throat]--that is, may I walk you to work?
no subject
[hhhhhh his... maybe-he's-not-quite-sure-boyfriend wants to walk him to work]
But, I mean, yeah. That's... That's definitely okay.
no subject
...well, no sense telling himself he wouldn't care now. That ship has sailed.
All the more reason to end this after tonight.]
Shall we?
no subject
[He'll put the rest of his things away, walks away from the desk, and take Oswald's arm as they head out.]
no subject
So...how long is your shift tonight?
no subject
I keep getting the worst hours, lately.
no subject
no subject
They're probably trying to make me quit or something. Too bad for them, I'm too stubborn. And too broke to afford losing that paycheck.
no subject
Well, that's their folly, for not realizing what a valuable asset you are.
[....right, he really should tamp down on the urge to go in there and "fix" a few things. That is a bad idea all around. And really exemplifies how he is in way too deep here.]

[he's getting so up in arms about it and it's really cute]
At least they're paying me, right? And as long as I don't give them a reason to fire me, they're just as stuck with me as I am with them.
no subject
Still. You deserve to be treated better, especially with all you do for them.
no subject
Yeah, well. I'm not really important enough to be treated like that.
