I have no doubt that you'll pick it up. [he pauses, then, contemplating his toast for a moment...before glancing up at Edward, eyes landing again on that scarf--and his expression goes a bit troubled]
...that scarf. [his eyes drop to it again, brow furrowed] It's more than warm enough in here, but I haven't seen you without it since last night. And it can't be comfortable. [he looks...pretty worried] Did something happen last night?
[Edward swallows nervously, fidgeting with one of his sleeves. His anxiety is... pretty much through the roof right now, honestly. It's spiking badly. Being asked by Oswald so directly...
He should have just gone out. He should've gone out or... he should've... found a better way to hide what happened he shouldn't have come back until late last night or something and
[there's a flicker in his eyes, then, shoulders slumping, clearly hurt]
...oh. [and Oswald is gathering up his plate, moving to stand. He pauses, just...looking down at the table] If...do you....[he swallows, hard] ....I'm not stupid, you know. [quietly] If you don't want to tell me, you can just say so. But...something happened. And pretending like it didn't, Edward--[he cuts himself off, swallowing] ...just tell me. I told you, you could tell me if I'm making you uncomfortable. If it's too much. So tell me, if that's the case, and I won't--[he stops again, feels like he's choking on his words, but he doesn't want any misunderstandings, he doesn't want Edward to leave] ....I'll stop.
[that....doesn't sound like Edward at all. And it...hurts. More than he thought it would, to be shut out. But it's better than not knowing, at least. And Oswald just nods.]
Of course. [and he picks up his dishes, turning away and walking to the sink]
See you--[and the door closes. And Oswald stares after him for a long moment, just...kind of feeling like he'd like to sink through the floor. Before calling Butch]
[Edward doesn't do anything too out of the ordinary, though. He visits some stores, as he told Oswald he would. A bookstore. And... a cosmetics store? Is that his thing?
...That's about all he really does, though, before he just... sits on a bench in a park for a little while. After which, he's just... going to head home again.
[well that's...good, right? Huh. He'll just follow and make sure he's okay, and let Oswald know when he heads home. And then he'll just...chill. For a bit.
Also ghost parents are definitely there when he gets home]
[that's fine. Elijah will sit calmly while Gertrude is just going to...hover. Worriedly. She fades in and out, returning every half hour, until finally--]
"Oswald's on his way home--he should be here in about fifteen minutes."

I don't think I'll manage to be at quite the same level, but. I'm going to try, at least.

I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I thought that.
[It's a little... robotic, almost. Direct, yes, and blank, sure. Edward gets like that, sometimes. But this is... more so.]
I would just rather not talk about this... if that's alright.
no subject
Of course. [and he picks up his dishes, turning away and walking to the sink]

[And... yep, he's... gonna leave, now. That's.
That's kind of sudden.]

...uncharacteristic. Very uncharacteristic.]

[Oswald will be here soon. He heard it. That's fine.]
