Oh, yeah, of course. [And he's just gonna get all of that, returning with everything in not too long, setting the plates and forks on the coffee table, then handing Oswald his cup.] Here we are...

Thank you. [he'd moved the two slices of cake onto the plates while Edward was pouring tea, and he'll hand Edward his slice while accepting his cup of espresso--a trade, of course.]

[Edward's cup, of course, is more sugar and cream than anything else. He sits down next to Oswald again.] Mm, no, I should be saying that. You're the one who brought cake.

Of course~ I saw it in the window and thought we could at least have that together, since I missed dinner.

Well, at least now there's leftovers for tomorrow, mm? [And CAKE now. Which, he's just going to start digging into.] H'ws-- [wait heck. swallowing first.] How was your day?

Far too long. We've gotten ten cases in the last week. Everyone's overrun with cases and working overtime because we just don't have enough people to take them all.

Damn... That's... a lot. Someone should tell crime to slow down a little... I guess hiring more people isn't an option...?

Not really, no. [he huffs a bit] Fish is picky about who she takes on, so hiring someone always takes such a long time.

Maybe just give some of the cases to me, then. The ones involving murder, anyway.

You do have an advantage with those, I suppose.

I'd get you the answer pretty quickly. That's a lot less work.

It would be pretty convenient to be able to just tell the judge: Ah yes, my friend who sees and talks to ghosts says that this person did the crime. It would certainly make things go more quickly.

Well, obviously you'd still have to give the full picture. You don't get points for the answer without showing your work, so to speak.

Yes, that is the issue. The courts running on evidence and all that.

I helped find some before, right? I mean... a body's a pretty big deal, anyway.

Yes, but I'd rather not put you back in the potential line of fire if I can help it. [dryly. this is all theoretical, right???]

...I'm not sure I understand the problem there.

[....what. He arches an eyebrow at that] What, you mean you getting caught up in whatever evidence or murder is there and possibly getting arrested again at my behest?

The problem is that I would really rather not have a hand in you getting arrested, and neither would I enjoy losing my current position because of it.

Edward, if there was a way to legally employ your services, I would without a second thought. But unfortunately, at the moment, there isn't.

[enigmaster]

...Yeah. Okay. [that doesn't really make him feel any better about it]

Oswald sips at his coffee a bit, frowning slightly]

You're...not pleased with that answer.
