[clearly nothing weird at all! it seemed like it for a moment, but if it doesn't bother Edward, what cause does he have to push it?] Oh? What kind of books? [and unless there's something else that stands out, the conversation will just continue along that vein for a bit--casual chatter. Because what cause is there to worry?]

[And, yep, it is just chatter from then on. Nothing really seems odd or off at all, it's just normal.

Mostly because Edward is sticking to the things he did earlier in the day, before things went... off the rails a little.

[yep, clearly nothing wrong here. Except for that he's still wearing the scarf. He looks mildly amused, even as he gets ready for bed] You're really attached to that scarf, aren't you? [he's teasing, lightly]

Ah... Hah, well. It's pretty comfortable. ...I'm not going to sleep with it on or anything, if you're worried.

Only a little. [yep still teasing.] We do have these things called blankets, and a thermostat, you know, if you do feel the urge. Though I have no idea how you're not sweating--it feels a bit warm in here to me, even.

Goodnight. [guess he must really??? like that scarf???? well, who is he to judge]

[And once he's getting ready for bed, Edward will take off the scarf. Wincing a little as he touches his throat... where there's a pretty obvious bruise. ...It's fine. He can just... hide this a few days. Or maybe cover it up with something, once it's faded a little. Right now, though, he's gonna go sleep.]

[when is a scarf not a scarf??? oh, right, when you're living in a house with three other ghosts, two of which who keep an eye on your room and make sure that you aren't interrupted by other ghosts. Which is why Edward's going to find both Elijah and Gertrude sitting on his bed the next morning, looking rather concerned]

[Right. That. Somehow, Edward hadn't factored in that part all that much. Honestly, he hadn't thought about... anything very much. So when he's up and notices that, he... blinks a little.] ...Um. [Oh, he is so busted.]

W-What, I'm... ...Nothing. [Edward. Edward ffs.]

[and both Gertrude and Elijah look at each other because hey yeah Edward ok, before looking back at Edward]

"Edward...we only want to help. We're not angry or anything. We're just worried."

[enigmaster]

[It's hard to shake that feeling, when confronted about something like this. The feeling that he's in trouble. He nervously holds his arm.] It's... nothing important. Just... had a small problem yesterday. It's fine.

[Gertrude scoots closer to him on the bed at that, reaching out to gently lay a ghostly hand on his knee. Not that he can feel it, but...] "...do not take this the wrong way, but it looks rather worse than a small problem. A small problem does not leave such a large bruise."

...It's not like it hurts that much anymore. [That's a lie. It does. Just not as much as the previous night, that's all.] I just... made the wrong person angry. It happens. [Especially to Edward.] It'll go away in a few days.

"Making someone angry should not result in this kind of treatment, Edward. And if it does, they should be held responsible for it."

[Gertrude's lips purse together] "It is something to be made a big deal of, both for your sake and the sake of others."

I don't really want that, though. I... [...] I don't really want to talk about this.

"You are going to have to, Edward. If not to us, then to Oswald." [Elijah would probably be far more gentle about this, but...Gertrude knows her son. And she can see the writing on the wall with this.]

[enigmaster]

[Oswald.] No. No, I-- I can't do that...

[and Gertrude frowns at that] "Whyever not?"

[enigmaster]

Last time... Last time, he really took it hard... he was so upset. I don't... I don't want to keep making him upset. I just keep doing this and he'll realize that and... [And then, surely, he won't want Edward around anymore.....]

"You don't think he will be upset when he learns that you've been hiding this from him?" [her hand still rests on his knee, and she gently reaches out to touch his cheek. Of course, he can't feel it because she can't actually touch him, but...the intent is there] "Edward...my son cares for you very much. It's only natural that he's upset when you're hurt.
