Um, no. I don't think so, anyway? It's just, um... I'm not really a fan of Halloween. [And Gotham kind of goes all out on that, throughout the month.] I know that's pretty much blasphemy in this city, but. Y'know. [He shrugs.]

[Someone's being evasive.]

[a bit quieter but...yeah. Listen, he can fuck up sometimes but he's been real careful about paying attention these last few weeks]

[Edward looks up, at that.] That isn't... [...] I just had a... bad experience around Halloween once and now I don't really like it much..

Oh. [yeah. yeah he got that vibe] ...is there anything I can do? I mean--I obviously can't stop Gotham from going crazy about it but I don't know...anything that might make it easier to deal with?

[enigmaster]

I don't really think so.

It's fine, though, I can just... stay inside and avoid it. [For. The rest of the month.] That way I won't have to see it all constantly.

...Sure. [THAT'S REALISTIC, RIGHT?]

....alright. We'll just stay in. There's enough places that deliver.

Of course. [mmmmm he sure is thinking about that "incident" And resolves to keep a closer eye on Edward as the month progresses.]

[enigmaster]

[Edward mostly just stays quiet and withdrawn. There's no other changes, at least, so he seems to be doing fine? Things just... keep going as normal, other than Edward staying inside as much as he can.

Though one night, if Oswald is up late, he'll hear... some noises coming from the bedroom.

[Honestly, October just seems like a month when stupid people start doing exponentially stupid things. So they've got a bit more of a caseload than normally, which has caused him to stay up later than he's used to. He's got his head buried in one of said case files when he hears those noises--and sits up a bit, blinking, glancing around. It takes a moment for him to realize they're coming from down the hall. Once he does, though, he's closing that file and pushing off from the desk, moving to exit the study and make his way towards the bedroom]

[The noises are... odd. It sounds like someone is being active in there, except, of course, Edward should be asleep by now.

...Actually, does that sound like... someone having a nightmare?]

[that's....a concern??? Oswald moves to listen a bit closer, knocking lightly]

--Edward?

[enigmaster]

[No response.

But Oswald might hear some very, uh... way too quick breathing in there. Like. Hyperventilation levels.]

[agoodname]

[yikes??? yikes! He's going to push the door open, then, gently, peering into the darkened room] Edward? [again, his name, a bit louder this time]

[enigmaster]

[Edward's there, but very much asleep, still. The covers are off of him, seemingly having been kicked away or something earlier. He's breathing much too quick and he's not... looking great. Pale, sweaty... That's someone having a very intense nightmare.]

[agoodname]

[that is definitely very not good--and Oswald is going to make his way in there, reaching out to turn on the bedside lamp] Edward? Edward, wake up. [louder, still, reaching out a hand to touch his shoulder]

[enigmaster]

[The breathing is still not slowing down and the only response, as Oswald touches his shoulder, is a panicked whimper. Not good.]

Edward--[he...does not! know what to do! Oswald swallows, and shakes his shoulder gently] Edward, you have to wake up--you're having a nightmare.

[enigmaster]

[After a bit of shaking, Edward gasps, eyes opening , but... Is he... really properly aware? He's pale and shaking and it's very hard to tell...]

[agoodname]

Edward? Edward, it's just me. It's Oswald--I, you were having a nightmare and you need to breathe, I think? [he's keeping his hand on his shoulder, trying to figure out if he's aware or not or what is??? even happening???]

[enigmaster]

[Edward is... not looking great, still.] C-Can't... I... Too small, I can't... [He's. Partially aware. He seems to think he's elsewhere, though.]
