Trail and error, mostly. And what smells good. I've tried most of the things on this street, so I pretty much know what's good and what isn't. [he'll pause near a couple vendors selling what looks to be some kind of paste and bread, next to one selling a kind of sandwich with meat and cheese.]
[alskdfhsd Osvaldus can't help but chuckle at that] It is, indeed. But it's not only bread. [he'll release his arm, leaning on the cart to support himself instead while he orders, before turning to hand the plate of chickpea paste, oil and bread to Edward.]
Here--hold that a moment while I grab our sandwich.
It'll get even more mysterious as Osvaldus orders from the stand next to them, accepting a soft-bread sandwich filled with slices of meat and some shredded white cheese. It smells like fried meat and fat and salt and sesame seeds.]
Alright--let's sit on one of the benches. We can eat there. [and he's tightening his jaw enough to push through the pain in his leg (and the constant one in his ankle) to hobble over to one of hte benches sat against the wall and lower himself onto it--before he pats the seat next to him]
That's cheese. Ricotta, to be precise. Here, set the plate down on your lap and balance it, and hand me the bread and oil and I'll put it on my lap, and we can start with this--
[aldkhfs he looks so confused. Osvaldus arches an eyebrow--and it takes a moment for him to realize that Enygma isn't sure which is which. At which point, he'll reach out and pluck the oil from his hand, nestling it upright in the bread basket so it doesn't spill]
Naturally. [he sounds amused--but distracting from that, fortunately the sandwich is already cut in half, so it's not difficult to split it and hand Enygma half of it.]
Here. Now, you just...take a bite. [and he shifts his half into his hands, and takes a solid bite out of it, making a pleased noise as he sits back and starts to chew.]
[He takes half of the sandwich, eyeing it almost with suspicions, as if this is a trap somehow. He just doesn't really understand what this is about... The smell is odd and heavy and salty and he isn't entirely sure what to make of it.
Besides, he doesn't need to eat, so it probably won't be even close to the same for him. For some reason, he's just indulging this mortal.
He just, brings the sandwich closer to his mouth, and takes a bite--]
Well, what you've got in your lap, actually. Here, just hold steady--[and he's picking up the small (smaller than his palm) pitcher of oil, and leaning forward so he can tip a bit of it on top of the hummus sitting in Enygma's lap--before sitting up to tear off a piece of the bread, scoop up a dollop of the hummus, and hold it out]
[Enygma blinks as he chews on that bread. Tilting his head curiously. The texture is very different from the last bite, as is the taste, and for a moment it's just... confusing. But after a moment, his eyes light up a bit, as he swallows the bread.]
That's... I don't even know how to describe that...
[Osvaldus smirks at that] Oh, quite a lot, actually. This barely even scratches the surface. [and he takes a piece of bread and hummus and oil for himself, popping it in his mouth]

Here--let's start with these.

[.......he genuinely isn't entirely certain]

The bread he gets, he knows what bread is. What's... this other stuff???
Mysterious...]

Now, the meat, the meat he knows of. The cheese, though, is a mystery to him and he leans in close to squint at it.]
What is this substance?

Good, right? [it's a bit muffled as he puts a hand in front of his mouth to talk]
no subject
[He starts talking, but, well. Mouth full. And he's working on... chewing.
But he definitely looks like he's enjoying it.]
no subject
It's very cute.
At least he seems to be enjoying it.
Osvaldus swallows, watching him] We can try the hummus next.
no subject
...What is "hummus"?
no subject
Here--open your mouth.
no subject
...Alright.
[He'll comply, out of curiosity more than anything. Bracing himself for whatever this is. It's... hard to figure out what this is.]
no subject
There--try that.
no subject
That's... I don't even know how to describe that...
...Mortals eat this every day?
