[Oswald blinks at that, having brought home some actual groceries for once, and toes off his shoes before wandering towards the Great Room, listening in a bit. Is Edward talking to a ghost? Or someone else?]

Yes. No, that's what I'm saying. I don't have those files, they were inside-- That's why I'm-- [It sounds as if he's... getting interrupted a lot, by whoever he's talking to. And then he lets out a long sigh.] ...Okay, I'll wait. [It isn't a ghost he's talking to, though. It's much more mundane for once. He's on the phone.]

[oh. Oswald pokes his head into the great room, before making for the kitchen with his groceries] Problems?

[enigmaster]

[Edward looks up a little, not too startled by Oswald's appearance. He hums a little, putting his phone on speaker so he can put it down for a bit. It's just hold music, right now.] Just... bureaucracy.

[Oswald wrinkles his nose at that] What kind of bureaucracy?

[enigmaster]

In case I run into any trouble, I'm supposed to call my caseworker and figure out what to do next. So I'm trying to do that. [The hold music continues playing. The emphasis here is on trying, it seems.]

Sounds like they're very accommodating. [dryly, as he starts to put the groceries away]

[enigmaster]

I'm not sure what I expected, really... [He just. Wants to get this phone call over with. He sighs and shakes his head a little. This could take a bit, so. He shifts his attention over to Oswald.] ...I kind of missed greeting you. But welcome back.

[that...honestly startles him a bit. he wasn't even really thinking about that. His mother and/or father used to greet him whenever he got home and having Edward do it, it's...it makes something squeeze in his chest. Both glad of it, grateful, but also nostalgic and sad. He didn't realize how much he's missed not having someone around to greet him when he gets home. It's such a simple thing, and yet....

he swallows against it, focusing on putting the groceries away]

...thank you. [it wobbles a little, and he clears his throat]

How was your day?

[enigmaster]

Quiet. [Not much happened nor did he do much.] Mostly I just slept in and kind of hung around. And then dealing with this, of course...

That sounds like a nice change. [a bit dryly, but amused. Also checking to see how much leftover chinese they have left]

[enigmaster]

[There's a decent amount left, honestly.] Mhm... Quiet days are kind of rare. [Well. Most of his days are quiet in theory, but less so in practice. He tends to have too much company for that.] ...Thanks again. For letting me stay the night.

Of course. It's no trouble.

[he pauses] What do you think? Leftover chinese, or should we cook something and save that for breakfast or brunch tomorrow?

[enigmaster]

[He looks up. So Oswald seriously isn't kicking him out or anything.] Um. [Suddenly he looks a little uncertain.] Leftovers are fine...

[he straightens, then, starting to pull the leftovers out of the fridge.] Then something fresh for breakfast tomorrow. I wasn't sure what you normally eat for breakfast, so I bought cereal and yogurt and whatnot.

[enigmaster]

Oh, I don't really have anything specific, I always just... kind of eat whatever is available. [Consistency hasn't really been a thing in Edward's life.] So that's fine.

[agoodname]

Good. We'll manage, then. [He's going to just start...heating up the rest of that chinese food lol, sending a glance at Edward's phone as he moves back and forth between the kitchen and the dining table]

[enigmaster]

Ah-- [He's about to say something. But that's about when the hold music finally comes to an end. And Edward blinks, quickly taking it.] Yes, hello...? Yes, that's me. I-- [Yep, okay, time to... deal with......] Oh.

[Oswald frowns at that--half listening with one ear as he gathers a pair of plates and silverware and cups and, of course, another bottle of wine]

No. No, I understand. Right.

And when should I... Okay. Mhm.

[And... that's about as long as the conversation lasts. Edward puts his phone down. All that waiting just for that, huh...?]

....I honestly cannot tell whether that went well or poorly. [he's confused]

[enigmaster]

It didn't really go at all. She's not available until next week. So. [SO... YEP.]

[....what]

Until next week?! But you're in a difficult situation now! [and now he's getting all...puffed up and feathers ruffled. Like his mother. The resemblance is honestly uncanny.]

[enigmaster]

Yeah. So that's... unfortunate. [YEAH, EDWARD, A LITTLE BIT.] I guess until then I'm just supposed to figure things out myself. [He says it very matter of fact, because. Well, that's how it is and there's nothing to be done about it for now. But he doesn't really know what to do, now.]

That is patently ridiculous. [still scowling, then] Honestly. You're in an emergency situation! What would you have done if you didn't already have a place to stay? Sleep on a park bench? In Gotham?
